Ten students of a private school in Reddypatti area were saved by locals from being swept away in a flash flood after their bus got stuck beneath an over-bridge, police said.
They said the flash flood waters dragged the bus for a distance of about 20ft before the vehicle hit the wall of the bridge.
Hearing the screams of the children, locals quickly got a tractor to rescue the bus, police added.
Oalur Thasidhar Alagiriswamy said the driver could have stopped the bus on seeing the flood waters, but had failed to do so.
