10 tonnes of artificially coloured jaggery seized

: Ten tonnes of artifically coloured jaggery valued at Rs four lakh were seized by health authorities from the market today.

The jaggery was seized during raids carried out by District health officer Dr.Anuradha and a team on complaints that sugarcane merchants were mixing chemicals and sugar to enhance the yellow colour of jaggery

The practice was being carried out despite warnings, officials said, adding the products were being brought from omalur area .

Jaggery has a good market in North India.
