10 varsity teams to play in American Football championship

Ten university teams from across India will fight it out in the American Football National League Championship to be organised here by the Elite Football League of India (EFLI) in June next year.

The launch of the league, to be played under American Football regulations, was announced here today by Venkatesh Movva, President and COO of Elite Football League of India (EFLI) in the presence of star National Football League (NFL) player Kurt Warner from the United States and other EFLI officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Venkatesh hoped that the new sport would grow big in India.

EFLI would provide support in terms of facilities and equipment to the member university teams across the country.
 

EFLI is also expected to provide coaching and other forms of assistance in its support to the university teams.

The University National League Championship in June 2014 would also be televised, Sunday Whelan, CEO of EFLI, said.

Warner said he was excited over coming to India and be a part of the endeavour and hoped that the game would gain in popularity in the country.

A match was played at the Astro Turf Police Ground here between Skykings Hyderabad and Warhawks Bangalore today.
