Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said the government would hand over 100 model high schools to private institutions.

"We will hand over the schools to private educational centres like Don Bosco and Sankardev Sishu Niketan to look after their academic side," Sarma said.

A bill on Assam Model School Act would be placed in the next session of the state assembly to facilitate the process, he added.

Sarma said all teacher appointments of these schools would be done by the government and infrastructure would be provided by the Rastriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhijan (RMSA).

"Private institutions will extend academic support to these schools," he said.
