About 100 live bullet rounds belonging to troops of paramilitary SSB were reported to have gone missing when they were going from Delhi to their base here, after which two securitymen were suspended.

Official sources said the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) force headquarters in Delhi, soon after the incident was reported in the afternoon, has placed under suspension two of its troopers which include a Head Constable and a Constable for alleged dereliction of duty and carelessness.

Senior officials of the paramilitary have also lodged an FIR at a police station here stating 100 live bullets kept in 5 magazines of INSAS rifles have been misplaced while an official convoy was on way to its training centre here from the 25th battalion camp in Delhi.

SSB Director General B D Sharma has taken a serious view of the incident and ordered a Court of Inquiry (CoI), sources said.

Officials said the incident happened when the SSB party, in transit, in one large truck and an escort vehicle, detected near Gorakhpur that the bullets were missing.

"The convoy had collected regular stores and ammunition from Delhi and were coming to Gorakhpur. As soon as the loss was detected, a search was launched and local police were informed to file an FIR.

The squad was on a routine transit and it is suspected that the bullets would have been forgotten or lost somewhere while the men were on move.

"The convoy stopped at various police stations on the way while and all such police units have also been alerted," a senior officer said.

SSB is tasked to guard India's borders with Nepal and Bhutan and has got a large deployment here as part of its deployment along Indo-Nepal border.
