In a concerted drive against illegal ticket sale during the summer rush, more than 100 touts and 10 unauthorised travel agents have been apprehended and prosecuted by Northern Railway.

"Our vigilance wing alongwith RPF has carried out an intensive check from March 1 to May 17 at all major locations and 116 touts were apprehended and prosecuted by the Railway Magistrate under the Section 143/144 of Railways Act 1989," said a senior Northern Railway official.

The official said the special focus was on checks against touts, unauthorised travel agents and also to detect passengers travelling on transferred tickets purchased from unauthorized agencies.

Checks were also carried out at passenger reservation and booking centers, platforms, trains, parcel offices and catering units to detect malpractices in these areas.

Ten unauthorised travel agents were sapprehended and prosecuted.

"Many reservation tickets made on fictitious names were recovered from these unauthorised travel agents," he said.

Checks were also carried out on trains and five persons were detected travelling on tickets reserved in the names of other persons.

The checking drive will continue to prevent such malpractices, the official added.
