103 deaths in 140 train mishaps in 5 yr

As many as 103 people lost their lives in 140 train accidents in the last five years in the country, railway officials said in reply to an RTI query.

North Central Railway with 72 deaths tops the list of maximum number of people killed in train mishaps, they said.

71 people died in just three accidents involving North Central Railway in 2011-12, the officials said.

The RTI was filed by an activist from Thane, Om Prakash Sharma.
