106 permanent Multi System Operator (MSO) registrations have been granted in areas where digitisation has been implemented, the government said today.

"The Ministry has so far granted 106 permanent MSO registrations for operating in DAS (Digital Addressable System) notified areas," Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

Javadekar said that his Ministry had received a letter on June 3 from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha for grant of MSO registration to Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited for operating in the DAS notified areas of Tamil Nadu.

"The application of M/s Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation is being examined in the light of the recommendations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regarding entry of government entities in the broadcasting and distribution activities," he said.

In response to another question, said that a committee constituted by the I and B ministry looked in to various aspects of certification of films by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

He said the committee has recommended revision in classification, strong pictoral representation and colour coding of the certificates which easily and clearly communicate the nature of such certification.
