The Indian girls finished 10th at the ITF junior world tennis after losing the play-off match 1-2 to Canada, here.

Shivani Amineni, playing the first singles, lost 2-6 6-3 3-6 to Ariana Arseneault before Mahak Jain brought India back in the match by winning the next singles 6-3 6-2 against Leylah Fernandez.

The doubles became decisive and the India coach Nar Singh played Mahak in place of Shivani along with Prinkle Singh. They fourth their hearts out before losing 6-7(5) 6-7(4) to the Canadian pair of Ariana and Viktoriya Tabunshchyk.

Placed in Group B, India had lost matches against hosts Czech Republic and Italy before winning against Egypt. The consecutive defeats had thrown India out of the semifinal race as only top team in each of the four groups qualified for the last-four stage.

Then India beat China, against whom they had lost in Bangkok in the regional qualifying event, and ended their campaign with defeat against Canada.

The field had 16 teams in total, divided in four groups.
