A Nigerian security official says at least 11 members of the main Islamic sect in the country's northeast have been arrested in the town of Michika in Adamawa state.

Lt Col Beyidi Martins, commanding officer of the special commands battalion, said today that six of the suspects were brought to Maiduguri and five were brought to Mubi. He said two died in Mubi from injuries after being beaten by the Civilian Joint Task Force that helped capture them.

The Civilian-JTF is a vigilante group formed by residents to combat the Boko Haram network.

The cooperation between the military and vigilante group comes a day after police say members of Civilian-JTF beat and killed a policeman in Maiduguri after one of their members was shot by police.
