Delhi government has redesigned 11 city roads with an aim to promote public transport, cycling and make them friendly for pedestrians and physically- challenged people.
As many as 11 roads in the national capital have been redesigned, keeping in mind the pedestrians and increasing public transport, and will be ready in next 6-8 months, Delhi PWD Minister Satyendar Jain today said.
The redesigned roads will have pedestrian-friendly footpaths keeping in mind that it could be used by both an eight-year-old child as well as an 80-year-old man.
"There is no proper footpath in Delhi. And even if they exist, it is like a roller coaster. You cannot take a wheel-chair on it. We want the footpath to be used by an eight-year-old kid and also by an 80-year-old man," Jain said.
He said the roads will have cycle-lane and priority would be given to public transport vehicles on them.
"The width of Delhi roads is good. We want to build cycle-lane and priority would be given to public transport vehicles and then to cars on these roads.
"We have designed 11 roads and will prepare in next 6-8 months. If people like them, then we will make similar roads across Delhi," Jain said.
