11 die in Karnataka road mishap

Eleven persons, including nine women, were killed and five others injured when a "tum tum" (large autorikshaw) and a lorry collided head-on near here today, police said.

All the 11, occupants of the autorickshaw, died on the spot in the collision at Halgeri village, 12 km from here, Koppal Superintendent of Police Thyagrajan told PTI.

Five injured persons, including the cleaner of the lorry, had been admitted to the government hospital here and the condition of a 35-year old woman was stated to be serious, he said.

The victims were travelling in the autorikshaw, plying from Koppal to Kuknoor, and the lorry was heading here from Hubballi when the mishap occurred around 6.45 pm.
 

The lorry driver was absconding, the SP said.
