The Kolhapur sessions court today sentenced 11 persons to life imprisonment in two related murder cases from the same village.
Ashok Maruti Patil was murdered on February 13, 2013 out of a political rivalry between two factions of a local Congress unit at Pachgaon in Karveer tehsil of this western Maharashtra district.
It led to a revenge murder of Dhanaji Tanaji Gadgil in the same village on December 23, 2013, according to the prosecution.
The two cases were tried separately.
In the fist case, District Judge L D Bile awarded life imprisonment to Dilip Ashok Jadhav, Amol Ashok Jadhav, Harish Baburao Patil, Onkar Vidyadhar Suryawanshi and Mahadev alias Hemant Mhasagonda Kalkutaki, said Advocate Vivek Shukla, the Government Pleader.
In the second case, the judge sentenced Milind Ashok Patil, Mahesh Ashok Patil, Akshay Jaysingrao Kondekar, Nishant Nandkumar Mane, Pramod Krishnath Shinde and Ganesh Kalakutaki to life imprisonment.
Shrikant Jadhav and Vishwajeet Ghorpade argued as Special Government Pleaders in the second case.
