11 Himalayan Griffon vultures die

Eleven rare species of Himalayan Griffon vultures died today after consuming a dead cow's meat, state forest department officials said.

The birds died immediately after consuming the meat in an open field at Borihat under Mirza police station.

The 11 vultures belong to the very rare Himalayan Griffon species, officials said, adding a team of veterinary doctors have rushed to the spot to collect the meat sample and conduct post mortem of the birds.
