11 killed after bus plunges into river in Nepal

At least 11 people were today killed and eighteen others injured, when a bus they were travelling plunged into a river in a remote region in Nepal, police said.

The accident happened when the ill-fated bus met plunged into Karnali river in Karnali highway near Nayan Mandir of Aathbiskot Municipality.

According to the police, the bus bound for Mahendranagar from Kalikot skidded off at around 3:30 pm this afternoon in the Karnali river.

Among the dead, there were seven men, three women and one infant. Eighteen people sustained injuries in the incident.

The bus is totally submerged in the river. The rescue operation is underway.
