Over eleven lakh passports have been issued by city office since the launch of the Passport Seva Project (PSP) in 2010, Regional Passport Officer (Bangalore) P S Karthigeyan said today.

"Till date, the RPO Bangalore has successfully issued 11 plus lakh passports to fellow citizens under PSP," he told reporters here.

In July this year, more than 40,000 passports were dispatched, Karthigeyan said adding that average time to dispatch passport (other than tatkaal passports) was around 14 days excluding police verification time.

He said the RPO has also organized several passport melas to enhance the accessibility of passports for people and ease the rush of applicants.

The number of appointment slots had increased from 37,900 to 49,800 per month from December 2012 to July 2013, a rise of 32 per cent, Karthigeyan said.

"Correspondingly, the number of passport applications processed per month has increased from approximately 28,700 to 39,500," he added.
