The Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) and other swine diseases have claimed 1,146 lives of pigs and piglets in Mizoram since January this year, officials said today.

While the outbreak of swine diseases had affected almost all the eight districts of the state, it was mainly concentrated in Aizawl, Serchhip and Champhai districts, they said.

There is no medicine to cure PRRS, the officials said, adding that the PRRS infected pigs were treated with vitamins to ensure that other diseases did not aggravate the illness.
