A total of 12,000 cases of liquor worth Rs 2.6 crore were seized by Election Commission (EC) appointed surveillance teams from Rupnagar district of Punjab.

Officials said the liquor was being kept illegally at a hideout in the district and EC-appointed officials raided the place yesterday after getting an intelligence input.

The seized liquor has been handed over to local police authorities for further investigation about the source and destination of the cache, said to be meant for inducing voters during the polls, they said.
