The Indian Army has seen 12 cases of fratricide since 2012, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said.

Giving details in a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Parrikar said one case was reported in 2012, and three in 2013.

This increased to seven in 2014 and there has been one case of fratricide this year.

The Navy on the other hand did not face any case of fratricide since 2012. The Air Force reported one such case last year.

Parrikar said the possible causative factors for committing fratricide are stress, personal and financial problems.
