12 Congress workers injured in police cane-charge

At least 12 Congress workers were injured as police resorted to cane charge on them while they were protesting against law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh.

The Congress workers, led by local MLA Nadeem Javed, took out a protest march from Sukhkhipur to the collectorate compound raising anti-government slogans.

As the agitating workers tried to burn an effigy of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to register their protest, police personnel tried to stop them.

In the ensuing melee, as may as 12 Congress workers were injured, party workers claimed.

However, Additional SP, Sripati Misra said that police did not use force and only snatched the effigy.
 

Senior Congress leader Kamla Prasad Singh claimed the workers were severely beaten and about 12 of them were injured.
