12 killed when fire breaks out in Indonesian karaoke bar

Police say 12 people have been killed in a fire that broke out in a packed karaoke bar on Indonesia's Sulawesi island.

Witnesses told authorities the fire started at around 1 a.M. Today on the second floor of the three-story building as hundreds of people filled the club in downtown Manado, the capital of North Sulawesi province.

Manado city police chief Col. Rio Permana said all twelve of people who died in the Inul Vizta Karaoke club 7 men and 5 women were Indonesians. Most of them died as the result of smoke inhalation injuries rather than burns. About 32 others were being hospitalized.
 

He said police are still investigating the cause of fires. It took firefighters several hours to bring the blaze under control.
