Days after bird flu scare triggered an alert in the region, twelve migratory birds were today found dead at Hansi in Hisar district, about 27 km from here.

The matter was reported this morning, when some youths came to Nehru College to play cricket and found the dead birds.

The carcasses were then brought to veterinary hospital Hansi in Hisar district, but due to Christmas holiday, no doctor was present in the hospital.

The reason for the death of the birds remains unknown.

The carcasses were handed over to Wildlife Department Haryana and would be sent to Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS) Hisar for further tests, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Hansi Yogesh Mehta said.

The authorities at various zoos, wetlands and at other places across Punjab and Haryana, have intensified monitoring and surveillance of the birds, after a sample of geese from Sukhna lake in Chandigarh had tested positive for bird flu a week back.
