Two of these neonatal care units at Mother and Child Care Hospital Bathinda and Mata Kaushalya Hospital Patiala, which will be equipped with latest medical facilities, are expected to start soon, an official spokesman said here today.

Fifty neonatal stabilisation units will also be set up in all the district hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals and community health centres to provide specialised care, he said.

The decision came in the wake of death of a new born at a hospital in Jalandhar last month after his parents failed to pay just Rs 200.

The baby was born on July 20 and had to be kept in an incubator. As the parents failed to pay the meagre amount, the child was taken off the incubator and died soon after.
