A 12-year-old boy has been apprehended for allegedly sexually assaulting his four-year-old cousin.

The boy was apprehended after a case was registered against him by the girl's parents under the provisions of the protection of children from sexual offences Act (POCSO).

Police claimed that the boy, who had come down to stay at his cousin's house yesterday, had physically abused the girl when she was alone in her room.

The boy asked the girl to accompany him to a secluded place in the house and when she tried to resist and started crying, he fled away from there, police said.

The girl told her parents about the incident after which a complaint was registered.

The minor girl was admitted to a nearby hospital where the doctors found marks of physical abuse, it said and added that she was released after being treated.

"The victim was found bleeding when her mother returned home. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where her condition was stable. The accused was apprehended on her statement," said a police officer.

The accused was apprehended and has been sent to a juvenile justice home, it said.
