A 12-year-old boy died after he fell into an open sewer pit near Millennium bus depot in south-east Delhi today, following which the police have registered a case of negligence and started investigation.
The incident occurred about 3 PM when Labhyansh, a class VI student and a resident of east Delhi's Lalita Park area, was returning home after a school picnic near the spot and he slipped into the open pit while talking to his friend, a police official said.
Labhyansh drowned before anyone could help him.

During investigation it emerged that the pit was left open after the sewer was cleaned. However, no guard was deployed near the pit, the official said.
Labhyansh's father had died around a year ago and his mother works as a domestic help, the official said.
The senior officer said "probably they (kidnappers) are
known to the family and from the same locality. It seems they were well equipped with information about the family and were close to them."
Police have spoken to Bittu's two friends and detained one from the locality in connection with the incident, the officer said.
"We are still not sure about the reason behind the murder. We are probing all possible angles...Whether the family had any enmity with somebody...But, why kidnappers have targeted a driver's family is also very confusing," the senior officer said.
Meanwhile, local residents of the area put up a road blockade in the evening for almost 20 minutes protesting against the murder of the boy.
