1200 challans, several arrests in police action in Kanpur

Cracking a whip ahead of New Year celebrations, the city police here challaned 1200 vehicles and impounded fifteen vehicles for creating menace on roads, while arresting 10 for gambling.

Between 11 pm to 2 am last night, the city police launched a search operation on a dozen crossroads where they challaned 1200 vehicles and seized fifteen of them, Superintendent of police (Rural) Surendra Tiwari said.

A case has also been registered against 25 offenders, he added.

Meanwhile, the police raided a house around 3 am in Roshan Nagar area of Rawatpur here and arrested 10 people for gambling, Tiwari said, adding that around Rs 20,000 were recovered in the raid.
 

He said that on New Year's eve, teams of police personnel will be deployed on all crossroads from 6 pm till 2 am and stern action will be taken for drunken driving.

Besides this, police personnel will also be present in informal clothes to maintain law and order in the city, Tiwari further said.

CCTV cameras have also been installed to monitor the movement of motorcyclists and to avoid any stunts, he said.
