The Goa government today said it has issued show cause notices to 122 officials for illegally availing benefits of social security schemes in the state.

The government has also initiated recovery process from them, State Industries minister Mahadev Naik told the state Legislative Assembly.

In a written reply, Naik has informed that 122 government officers were availing benefits under flagship Dayanand social security (DSS) scheme and Grih Adhaar.

DSS scheme provides Rs 2,000 per month for senior citizens, widows and people living with HIV, while the scheme Grih Adhar gives Rs 1,000 for housewives.

"We have issued show cause notices to the beneficiaries and the amount is recovered along with 8 per cent interest on the principal amount received under the DSS scheme," Naik has said in a reply.

The reply stated that some of the government officials availed money up to Rs one lakh under these schemes cumulatively.
