127 bikers challaned in Delhi

Continuing to crackdown on errant bikers in the high security New Delhi district, police challaned 127 motorists and impounded 29 vehicles, police said.

A total of 819 vehicles were checked by police last night on various arterial roads around India Gate using 52 pickets.

On the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, police had impounded 269 vehicles, detained 250 bikers and fined 482 motorists.

The 250 riders including juveniles who were detained were allowed to go following counselling and after their parents were called.

A police official said the drive was launched to stop bikers from breaking rules, honking and performing stunts risking their lives and that of others.
 

In a similar drive, on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, nine bikers were challaned and four motorcycles were impounded.

A total of 288 vehicles, including 36 cabs and 237 bikes were checked.
