Anti Human Trafficking unit today taken 12 women and 13 children, to custody who were found begging in the city particularly at traffic signals.
In a drive against beggar menace following complaints from public, the unit, attached to city police, carried out raids in Railway Station and surrounding area and detained the 25, police said.
Some of them claimed they had come from Nagpur region in Maharashtra since they had no livelihood avenues there due to drought situation and they were not beggars.
However, police found the children had posed as handicapped though they were normal. Moreover, the women did not have enought proof to establish that the children belonged to them.
