At least 13 people were injured when they were attacked by monkeys in Nilagiri notified area council (NAC) jurisdiction in Balasore district, hospital sources said.

They said while seven perople were treated yesterday, six others were admitted to the hospital today. All of them were attacked by wild monkeys, a doctor treating them said.

The injured persons included two children. Of the 13 persons, two people have received deep injuries in neck and face area.

Seeking protection from the rogue monkeys, locals resorted to road blockade on Seragarh-Udala main road. The blockade was, however, lifted after intervention of forest and revenue officials.

"We have engaged about 30 forest staff to catch the rogue monkeys. A six-member specialist monkey catchers from Similipal National Park will come to trap the animals," said Ajit Kumar Satpathy, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) in-charge, Balasore.
