13 killed as heavy rain lashes parts of UP

Thirteen people, including nine minors, were killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh as many parts of the state received heavy rainfall.

Three children were killed in a lightning strike in Siddharth Nagar. They were in a madrassa at the time of the incident, police said, adding that in another similar incident, Hareram Yadav (45) was killed in Jawahin village of Ballia district.

Six persons were killed in separate lightning strikes at Jaswant Nagar area in Etawah last night. Five of the six were identified as Anita (17), Mulayam (7), Akash Yadav (14), Tularam (55) and Akash (23) while the identity of one deceased could not be ascertained.
 

In yet another incident, three children -- Nisha (12), Deepak (10) and Deepchandra (8) -- were killed as their mud house collapsed this morning in Ambarpur village in Kanpur.

According to the MeT department, isolated parts of the state received heavy rainfall. Dhauraraha received 10 cm of rainfall, followed by Lucknow (8), Bisauli (7), Etawah, Unnao, Meerut (5 cm each), Barabanki, Neemsar, Jhansi (4 cm each) and Kheri, Jaunpur, Varanasi (BHU) and Kayamgunj (3 cm each).

The MeT department has forecast rains or thundershowers at many places in western UP and a few places in eastern UP tomorrow.
