13 parliamentary secretaries allocated portfolios

In an official notification, Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra has determined the areas of their responsibility with the allocation of portfolios.

As per notification, announced here today, Tapas Roy would hold the portfolio of parliamentary affairs and Asok Kumar Deb Minority Development, while Ashis Banerjee has been given higher education and technical education.

Asima Patra has been given micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) and Sandhya Rani Tudu backward classes welfare, Sasi Panja would look after women, children and social welfare department.

Among others, Biplab Mitra gets law, A T M Abdullah panchayat, Amal Acharya fisheries, Rabindra Nath Ghosh PWD, Radhakanta Maiti irrigation, Nasiruddin Ahmed transport and Arup Kumar Khan agricultural marketing.

 

Amid a boycott by the entire opposition, the chief minister administered the oath of office and secrecy to these 13 parliamentary secretaries, all Trinamool Congress MLAs, in the state on January 24.

Appointment of parliamentary secretaries was resented by the opposition parties, including CPI-M and Congress, on the ground that it would impose a further burden on the state government already stressed by an acute financial crisis.

Parliamentary secretaries would enjoy the status, privileges and perks similar to that of a minister of state or deputy minister.
