Over 130 employees of the health department in Kashmir division have been found to be appointed illegally, the government informed the Legislative Council on Tuesday.

Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat informed the House that 133 employees were found to be illegal appointees in the Health Department of Kashmir division, after audit and inspection department had conducted an inspection during 2012 and raised observations against 2,274 employees.

Replying to a question by Opposition National Conference MLC Bashir Ahmad Veeri, the minister said the department has constituted divisional and district-level committees to scrutinise the cases of these employees.

He said a departmental enquiry was conducted in this regard in which 17 officials were found involved in making these appointments.

Out of these, eight are retired and the department has issued directions to the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir, for recovering the amount of loss caused to the state by these employees as arrears of land revenue under the provisions of J-K Land Revenue Act.

The minister said out of the remaining nine, one has died while others are in-service and the departmental proposal with regard to action against them is under consideration.

He, however, said the action against the eight retired employees has been stayed by the high court.
