As many as 1,300 villages in Telangana do not have public bus facility and efforts are being made to provide them these services, Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy said today.

The government is improving road connectivity on a largescale and the 1,300 villages would be connected by state-run Road Transport Corporation (RTC) buses, he said during a budget discussion.

According to government data, there are 10,434 Revenue Villages and 8,695 Gram Panchayats in the state.

Reddy said the government has initiated training programmes for drivers of RTC, the major public carrier in the State, to bring down the number of road accidents, he said.

He also said tenders would be floated for setting up of petrol pumps, proposed to be run in lands owned by RTC, which would generate additional revenue to it.
