However, 134 new cases of dengue infection were reported from different parts of the state taking the total number of people infected by the virus to 3,004, West Bengal Director of Health Services Biswaranjan Satpathy told PTI.

Most of these cases were reported in the last 24 hours from Hooghly district's Serampore and North 24-Parganas district, the medical officer said.

Talking about a report of Scrub Typhus infection in the city, Satpathy said, "We have heard of a person in the city infected by the disease. We have sought report from our medical officers... But if it turns out to be true then it will be a first case of Scrub Typhus in Kolkata."

Sathpathy said that Typhus, is transmitted generally to humans by mites mostly in North Bengal's Mirik.
