The 13th Mumbai International Film festival (MIFF) for documentary, short and animation films commences on February 3 next year would be simultaneously screened in major cities, including Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, a senior official said today.

"The national competition films would be screened in Chennai, Delhi and Kolkata. We are co-ordinating with Nandan Theatre in Kolkata and Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi for parallel screening," MIFF Director V S Kundu told reporters here.

MIFF is also taking steps to screen films simultaenously in Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram and Chandigarh, he said.

Taking into consideration the wide interest among film enthusiasts for the festival and the fact that most of them might not be able to take time and go to Mumbai, arrangements were being made to screen them in these cities, he said.

Kundu said 205 of a total of 588 films received from 34 countries have been selected for MIFF.

Organized by Films Division, Government of India and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the week long film extravaganza will be held at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA).

The oldest and largest international film festival for non-feature and animation films in Asia, MIFF-2014 brings a lot of valuable content for filmmakers and cinema lovers.

This year, a veteran Indian documentary filmmaker will be honoured with V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award.
