14 candidates have filed nomination papers for the forthcoming Legislative Council elections from graduate constituencies while 13 candidates are in fray from the teachers' constituencies here.

Outgoing BJP MLC Arun Pathak is one of the main contenders in the graduate MLC elections and will be rivalled by Manvendra Swarup, the scion of Swarup family who have held the position for 99 years.

Pathak had managed a narrow win over Swarup in the elections held in 2015.

"We have done more to make resources and jobs available for the graduates in one-and-half-years than what Swarups did in their rule of 99 years," said Pathak.

In teachers' MLC elections, outgoing MLC Raj Bahadur Singh Chandel will contest with 12 other teachers to keep his position.

The MLC elections will be held on February 3.

All the candidates have started making rounds of the universities to gather maximum support for their candidature.

On the other hand, the district administration is making full preparations keeping in mind high-profile events scheduled to be held in the district in the near future.

Apart from the graduate and teachers MLC elections, the Assembly election will be held here on February 19.

There is also a T-20 cricket match between India and England on January 26 at Green Park.
