Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the state Legislative Assembly today that encroachment of land beyond lease areas, if any, shall be clear after Digital Global Positioning Survey (DGPS), initiated by the Department of Mines and Geology, is completed.

However, Parrikar gave details of the illegalities identified till date in respect of existing mining leases, which mentioned names of 14 mining lease holders, who were either involved in illegal extraction or encroachment outside the mining lease.

In its report, the Justice M B Shah Commission had pointed out that mining worth Rs 35,000 crore was executed outside the lease areas.

The Commission had suggested the recovery of the amount from the mine owners.

However, the mine owners had alleged that the figure was erroneous as the survey of mining lease was done with the faulty method.
