A 14-month-old girl was found dead in a sump under suspicious circumstances near here today, police said.
The girl's father complained to police that a man took his daughter while she was playing with some other children near their huts in the same area.
The complaint was lodged after the child went missing.
A senior police official said they were investigating from all angles including if she had accidentally fallen into the sump.
Based on preliminary investigation, the police official ruled out the possibility of the child being kidnapped and murdered.
As per CCTV footage, she is seen walking on the road, he added.
