A court here has refused to extend the anticipatory bail plea of 14 municipal corporation workers, accused of attacking vigilance team in 2007, and sent them to jail.

Cancelling their plea yesterday, the district and sessions court posted the hearing of their regular bail application to December 10.

According to district police spokesperson, Vigilance team inspector Chaman Lal Sharma had submitted a report on 25 July 2007 stating that around 40-50 workers had attacked their team when Vijendra Pratap was caught red handed taking bribe in the municipal corporations' tax office.

A vigilance team worker, Jay Singh was injured in the tussle.

Police had filed a charge sheet against the 14 accused, including former president of the municipal corporation workers' union, Shripal.

The accused approached the Allahabad high court against the charge sheet where they were ordered to surrender before the court and were then released on interim bail till the sessions court in Meerut hear their case.

However, during the bail hearing yesterday the sessions court refused to extend their interim bail and sent them to jail.
