145 IAS officers faced graft charges in past ten years

145 IAS officers faced charges of alleged involvement in corruption in the last ten years by CBI and state government agencies.

Sanction to prosecute 12 officers of elite Indian Administrative Service (IAS) was granted to central and state probe agencies in 2003, 11 officers in 2004, six in 2005 and five such officers during 2006, according to data from Ministry of Personnel.

Thirteen IAS officers were charged for alleged corruption in 2007, nine in 2008, 32 in 2009, 21 in 2010, 17 in 2011, nine in 2012 and ten in 2013, it said.

These officers were allegedly charged with fraud, corruption and amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.
 

There are about 4,619 IAS officers working across the country.

The Personnel Ministry was taking action against 15 IAS officers who have been on "unauthorised absence", the data said.
