Altogether 15 teachers, including five women, were honoured with the State Teachers' Award during the Teachers' Day celebration in Nagaland.

The teachers, five of whom were from private schools, were awarded at a programme organised by the state Directorate of School Education.

"Our lives have been greatly influenced by teachers who helped us mould various aspects of our lives. ... You (teachers) need to reorient and change your teaching method in the fast changing world to inspire the students to learn and perform well in their studies," Advisor for School Education and SCERT K T Sukhalu.

While book teaching is central to an educational system, digital literacy can no longer be ignored, said Sukhalu, also an MLA.

On agitation by a section of teachers, he said every job has its terms and conditions and individuals should be aware of its nature before applying.

"Individuals not satisfied with the terms of their service should not continue in service and can tender their resignation," he said.
