Nearly 15 people hailing from Visakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh are stuck in strife-torn Iraq.

"The Government of India has sent a list of 16 addresses to the district administration to confirm whether they belong to Visakhapatnam district, and the administration has confirmed that 15 persons are stranded in Iraq," District Revenue Officer (DRO) M. Venkateswara Rao told PTI here.

Rao said that the district administration noticed that one of the 16 names sent by the Centre was repeated.

"The Centre had instructed the district collector to gather details of these people through tehsildars, so that it can take necessary steps to bring them back home," Rao said.

Andhra Pradesh government on Saturday requested the Centre to rescue 61 persons hailing from the state who are currently stranded Iraq, and ensure their safe passage to their native places.
