Fifteen people, including three children, were rescued from drowning in Yamuna river near Shamshan Ghat in north Delhi's Burari, police said today.
Yesterday, the police were informed that about 15 members of a family were about to drown in the river and required emergency help, a police officer said.
Eight men, four women and three children were trapped in the water and were unable to come out, the officer said.
The police with the help of locals, the NDRF and the Delhi Fire Service managed to rescue them.
A senior officer from Delhi Fire Service said two fire tenders were rushed to the spot for the rescue operation.
The police said it took them nearly an hour to rescue the victims. Despite repeated warnings, villagers were still venturing into their agricultural fields on the banks of Yamuna, they said.
The victims were agricultural labourers based in Ghadi village in Burari, they added.
