Coast Guard today repatriated 150 fishermen who were released from Sri Lankan jails to nearby Mandapam and Karaikal, officials said.

While 24 fishermen were sent to Mandapam, 126 others were sent to Karaikal near Nagapattinam, they said.

The fishermen were released upon orders from Sri Lankan courts to facilitate proposed talks between fishermen's representatives and officials of the two countries aimed at solving the dispute arising out of fishing in the Palk Straits.

According to officials, the fishermen have alleged that they were not given proper food in Sri Lankan jails where they were lodged since March 25.
