16,000 women selected as PMUY beneficiaries in Sonitpur

Altogether 16,000 women have been selected as beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in Sonitpur district of Assam.

The welfare programme of PMUY aims to safeguard the health of women and children by providing them with a clean cooking fuel.

Tezpur Lok Sabha MP R P Sharma today distributed gas cylinders to 21 women at a function organised under the aegis of the district administration and the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).

The scheme introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was beneficial for the poor, especially women, Sharma said on the occasion.

IOC area manager Gajen Pathak said that the verification process was still going on and the 16,000 selected beneficiaries will get the connection through their respective dealers.
 

He further said that till now 28,000 applications had been received from the beneficiaries in the district.

The function was also attended by Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar Deka and other senior officials of the district administration and IOC.
