16 child labourers rescued

Sixteen children, engaged as bonded labourers at a small manufacturing unit of artificial jewelleries here, were rescued today by police.

On the basis of a tip-off, the police raided the house at Sultanwind locality, where the victims were locked for last several months and rescued them, they said.

The children, between the age group of 8-16 years, were not given enough food or allowed to have adequate sleep and even subjected to severe beatings if they failed to meet their daily targets.

Efforts are on to send this children to their homes in Bihar. Meanwhile, police is trying to trace out Arvind, the owner of the jewellery manufacturing unit, who is at large.
