Taking a serious note of its clerical staff accepting bribes on camera, as purportedly shown in a sting operation by a private television channel, the Patna Civil Court today suspended 16 officials on a directive of the high court.

The district court administration suspended 16 bench clerks and office clerks after the Patna High Court took a serious note of the matter and its registrar general wrote to the Patna district judge, asking him to initiate action against them, civil court sources said.

A private TV news channel, in a sting operation carried out on the civil court premises, showed bench clerks and office clerks purportedly accepting bribes from clients to expedite their work.

The sting operation was aired yesterday.

The clerks were purportedly shown taking money to give dates to the clients, furnish bail bonds, get certified copies of documents etc.

The suspended bench clerks and office clerks were posted in different courts of the district.
