The voting for historic general elections in Pakistan was marred with violence as at least sixteen people died in poll related violence in the troubled Balochistan province in south-west Pakistan.
As many as 10 persons died and 15 others sustained injuries yesterday when a bus carrying supporters of independent candidate Khadim Hussain Shah came under attack in Naseerabad district, Quetta city police chief Mir Zubair said.
"The supporters of Shah were coming towards Chatar when a remote controlled roadside bomb blast took place and later rockets were also fired at the bus," he said.
In another incident, four people were killed and around eight persons injured when a clash broke out between supporters of an independent candidate and Awami National Party in the town of Chaman, situated close to the border with Afghanistan.
In Soorab town of Kalat district, some 220 kilometres from here, two soldiers of the Frontier Corps (FC) were killed and four wounded when the gunmen opened fire on them.
Zubair said the troops had fired back but the gunmen escaped from the scene.
