16 militants killed as Pak jets strike insurgent bases

Pakistani military jets today pounded terrorists' positions along the Afghan border in the restive tribal region in northwest Pakistan, killing at least 16 suspected militants and injuring 15 others.

The aerial strikes were conducted in various areas of Khyber Agency.

Independent verification of the death toll was not possible, as journalists are not allowed in the area.

According to security sources, military jets pounded hideouts of terrorists in the Khyber area during the wee hours.

The operation was carried out on a tip-off in Akakhel area of Bara against the militants who were allegedly involved in the terror attacks on Sabzi Mandi in Islamabad, the attack on the police in Charsadda and Peshawar.
 

The attack was carried out on insurgent hideouts in the Spera Dam, Merokhel, Tirrah valley's Kokhikhel area and the surrounding areas of Akakhel.
